As recognition for the successful organization of the regatta and for overcoming the challenges posed by the COVID‑19 regulations, the chairman of the organizing International Wedau Regatta e.V., Thomas Küpper, as well as competition director Tobias Weysters, received the Golden Medal of Honor from the European federation. In his speech at the conclusion of the championships, Thomas Küpper thanked the 100 volunteer helpers as well as regatta course manager Mirko Günther and his team. “Without you, this success would not have been possible,” said Thomas Küpper.
The U23 European Championships were the first international rowing regatta worldwide this year. A total of 650 athletes from 31 nations took part in 132 races competing for 22 titles. The organizers developed a special hygiene concept, which was coordinated with the City of Duisburg and the world federation FISA. The local organizer was the International Wedau Regatta e.V. It has already been confirmed that the association will also host the U23 European Championships in 2024.
